Understanding Social Impact: A Leadership Workshop

Recognising a growing interest among senior leaders from the corporate, business, government and the defence services in contributing to a more equitable society, ILSS introduces ‘Understanding Social Impact: A Leadership Workshop.’ This workshop is designed for mid-to-senior-level private sector leaders, providing insights into the complexities of the social sector and offering a clear path for transitioning into it.

The Need For This Workshop

ILSS is committed to developing leadership and enhancing the skills of social sector leaders to drive large-scale, catalytic impact. Since its inception, ILSS has built a community of over 450 corporate professionals and 350 nonprofit leaders, positively impacting 200+ social purpose organisations (SPOs). Our alumni network includes 850+ individuals across programs, with over 200 successfully transitioning into the development sector.

In this workshop, participants will connect with visionary leaders, learn from inspiring success stories, and engage in reflective exercises to deepen their understanding of the social sector landscape. As interest in social impact and philanthropy grows, the need for skilled visionary leaders becomes more critical than ever.

Sudhir Subbaraman

COO, Sattva

“Sudhir Subbaraman is a Partner at Sattva Consulting, responsible for leading Sattva’s work  in the Global and Domestic Foundations. 

Sudhir has more than 25 years of holistic and global experience across corporate and social  sectors. This spans senior leadership and entrepreneurial roles in strategy, operations,  consulting, people management and product engineering. Prior to joining Sattva, Sudhir  was the Business Unit Leader and Senior Vice President at CGI India. 

Sudhir’s passion for social sector impact started with CGI India as CSR Champion. Sudhir  and his CSR team have delivered meaningful social impact through trendsetting programs  with STEM programs for ATL labs, Climate Action and public-partnership/systemic  transformation around women safety. 

Going beyond his technological and business operations expertise, Sudhir is also keen in  helping founders & CXOs to help shape their organisations’ culture, scale, processes and  capacity for operational excellence. Sudhir is a regular speaker at domestic conferences and  industry bodies. He also serves on the advisory board of institutes, NGOs and social sector  start-ups. 

Sudhir holds B.Tech and MS degrees in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and an  MBA from University of Michigan, Ross School of Business.

Carolina Artegiani

Former Head of Development and Inclusion, Museum of Art & Photography

Carolina Artegiani is the former Head of Development and Inclusion at the Museum of Art & Photography, MAP in Bengaluru. There she was part of the founding team and contributed to the shaping of the organisation setting us a number of verticals including fundraising, inclusion, administration and conservation.

Prior to MAP, Carolina was in London where she worked in a fundraising capacity for arts organisations including The Photographers’ Gallery, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, Rambert Dance Company and Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Before starting her career as a fundraiser, Carolina set up a theatre company called Words of Honour and was the General Manager of the human rights theatre company iceandfire.

She holds a Masters in Live Performance Producing from Birkbeck University.

Sheena Gandhi

Assistant General Manager, Social Stock Exchange

Sheena brings 20 years of work experience across communication and development sectors. Sheena is the Head of Social Stock Exchange at BSE India. Prior to joining BSE, she co-founded a Not-For-Profit Trust, which enabled capability building and facilitated internal readiness for organisational and programmatic effectiveness of non-profit organisations (NPOs). She was instrumental in steering five multi-stakeholder collaborative projects and has led various knowledge and learning initiatives such as workshops and masterclasses in the development sector.

She established a strong working relationship with NPO partners, intermediaries, donors, and other stakeholders towards sustainable development. Before transitioning to the development sector, she worked for over 14 years in a communications advisory role, shaping the reputation of blue-chip brands and companies.

Deepanjali Lahiri

Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, LedBy

Deepanjali Lahiri is the Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of the LedBy Foundation, an organisation dedicated to empowering marginalised communities, particularly Muslim women, through leadership and entrepreneurship programs. With 18 years of experience at some of the world’s largest tech and retail companies, she has successfully led large-scale initiatives focused on driving growth and creating long-term value.

Her corporate career revealed systemic inequities within workplaces, fueling her passion for addressing these challenges through LedBy. At the foundation, she concentrates on building equitable opportunities, fostering leadership, and driving systemic change to amplify underrepresented voices.

Deepanjali’s work is rooted in her unwavering commitment to collaboration and equity. She transforms challenges into opportunities, creating communities where diverse voices are not only heard but celebrated. Her journey reflects a deep dedication to empowering those often overlooked, enabling them to step forward with confidence and purpose.

Lata Ghanshamnani

Co Founder, RNisarg Foundation

Dr. Lata Ghanshamnani is a distinguished medical practitioner with over 25 years of experience in Ophthalmology. Holding an MBBS, MS, DNB DOMS in Ophthalmology, she is a highly regarded expert in her field. Dr. Ghanshamnani is an active member of the Bombay Ophthalmologists’ Association (BOA), the Indian Medical Association (IMA), and the Association of Medical Consultants, Physician Association for Nutrition (PAN) and life menber of Indian Society for Hospital Waste Management (ISHWM).

Currently, she practices at Senses Eye and ENT Hospital in Thane West, offering a wide range of medical services. These include cataract surgery, LASIK, Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction treatment, Anterior Segment Surgery, Corneal Surgery, Diabetic Eye Checkups, Squint and more.

In addition to her medical contributions, Dr. Ghanshamnani is the co-founder of Rnisarg Foundation, an NGO established in 2016. The organisation focuses on building solutions for making cities liveable. The work areas are  waste management, road safety with an aim to improve civic issues in the city through active citizen engagement. Rnisarg Foundation is dedicated to creating sustainable solutions for a healthier planet by promoting self-awareness, self-discipline, and self participation by citizens.

Amit Gupta

Change-Catalyst Management Services

Dr Amit Gupta has 35 years of experience in a diverse set of domains, starting with his first job at Amul in the production function and continuing with B2B marketing in companies like ITW Signode and almost a decade at ITC. Subsequently, he was involved in eCommerce and academia as the founding Director of ISBR Business School, Bengaluru. He is currently the Director-Evidence for Change at Catalyst Foundation, involved in research, ME, impact assessment in the CSR, Sustainability; ESG domains.

The social leanings at IRMA and Amul, sustainability exposure at ITC led him to initiate his own venture in building a digital CSR lifecycle management platform to enable seamless engagement between NGOs and corporate CSR which attempts to help underserved NGOs in capacity building. He divides his time between consulting, advising, mentoring social start-ups and teaching CSR; Sustainability at various B-Schools.

Kanishka Chatterjee

The Nudge Foundation

Kanishka leads The/Nudge Prize – One of India’s only incentive challenge formats, focused on addressing our biggest socio-economic problems and improving livelihoods through technology. Our incentive competitions aim to bring disruptive tech-first solutions to underserved population segments and guide markets to where they are most needed.

Before joining The/Nudge Institute where he has spent ~3 years, he spent two decades in research & marketing analytics as a commercial analytics leader. He has worked across Healthcare, Pharma, CPG & BFSI, focused on growth-hacking digital marketing strategy and driving differentiated research & social media insights practices for globally scaled enterprises. Across organisations like Genpact, AXA, Clarivate & Axtria.

Kanishka has a Bachelor’s in Economics and PGDBM in Marketing from TAPMI, Manipal. He’s also a post graduate public policy student at the Takshashila Institute and an alum of ILSS

Gautam Lahiri

Executive Director, TIDE

Gautam hails from Kolkata, where he completed his studies and has been living in Bangalore with his wife, son; pet dog since 2004. Gautam holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce. He has been accredited with certificates in business administration, information technology and operations management. Gautam is married to Sonarbina—who holds a master’s degree in zoology; pursues an interest in music and art. He is an avid reader, an amateur trekker and a patron for animal.

Gautam has over 25 years of Technology delivery, transformation and service quality experience with various Multinational companies. He has extensively worked with global clients across pharma, automobile and media industry where he led line and staff functions along with Centre head roles. Gautam had been instrumental in setting up new functions, generate business value and transition key processes from other geographic locations.

Gautam’s interest lies in enabling people for success and he is very keen to leverage his rich experience and contribute directly / indirectly for the social sector in India. He values integrity, inclusiveness and ingenuity.

Vinita Gurshani Singh

Managing Trustee
We, The People Abhiyan, Gurugram

Vinita Gursahani, a social sector leader, has dedicated the last 15 years passionately building constitutional awareness and empowering citizens to stand up for everything that’s rightfully theirs. Her organisation, We The People Abhiyan, engages with educationists, activists, civil society members, government officials, donors, and citizens to explore and utilise the Indian Constitution for personal and community betterment.

Through her work, Vinita constantly engages and facilitates dialogues with educationists, activists and members of the civil society and strives towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of reducing inequalities, promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions. She has empowered citizens to leverage constitutional awareness, enhancing education, community empowerment, and women’s leadership. Whether it’s ensuring access to basic rights such as pensions and water, or upholding a basic human right such as the right to religion, Vinita and her team’s efforts have constantly capacitated individuals to stand up for their undeniable human rights and create powerful and long lasting results.

Anushri Alva

Chief Executive Officer and Founding Team Member,
Adhyayan Foundation

Anushri has worked as an Educator for the last 15 years across East Asia, India, and the US on various Education-based programs. Since 2017, she has been a founding team member and CEO of Adhyayan Foundation. Anushri received her postgraduate degree in International and Comparative Education from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Hong Kong. She is an alum of the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship’s Women-led accelerator cohort and is an organizing committee member of Teachers College’s India chapter. She has worked on education in the contexts of military violence and refugees, gender-based violence, and public education and governance.

Proteek Kundu

Founder & Director, NeevJivan Foundation

Proteek as a professional has an experience in successfully propelling through high growth and turn around cycles in reputed organisations across the manufacturing and telecom industries over the last 25 years.

In his quest to find things that make life worthwhile, he has always wondered how he could strike a balance between his professional life and make a meaningful contribution to the society. Eventually, he decided to move to the social sector with a hope that he will be able to use his experience to make a difference to the lives of the underprivileged.

Today, Proteek runs an NGO which works with a focus on Skill Development & Vocational Training for the tribal community in rural Maharashtra. Targeted at the marginalised women and youth, it is their endeavour to create alternate sources of income and opportunities for sustainable livelihood for them in their villages so that they do not have to migrate to the cities in search of greener pastures.

Pooja Taparia

Founder and Chief Executive, Arpan

Pooja Taparia is Founder and Chief Executive of Arpan, a globally-recognised, award-winning NGO working towards the elimination of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) in India. Based in Mumbai, Arpan is India’s largest NGO providing CSA Prevention and Intervention services for both children and adults.

As a leader, Pooja embodies the spirit of the modern-day social entrepreneur and has grown Arpan from a 3 person startup into a global thought leader in the CSA space, with innovative impact models that work with a range of stakeholders, from children and parents to state bodies and teachers. As a critical stakeholder for state and non-state actors, Arpan is a leading voice in the space of CSA Prevention and Intervention in India, and uses advocacy and research to push for policy and systemic change at the local, state and national levels.

Since 2007, Arpan has impacted over 20 million children and adults, and has received 6 National and 2 International Awards, including the WISE Award and the C. Henry Kempe Award. Pooja is also on the board of Sol’s ARC, which addresses the challenges experienced by struggling learners across their lifespans and works towards improving their life outcomes.

Deval Sanghavi

Co Founder and Partner, Dasra

Deval Sanghavi is the co-founder of Dasra, a strategic philanthropy organisation that has been instrumental in shaping India’s social impact landscape.

Over the past 25 years, Deval has guided Dasra in channeling over INR 3,300 crore into the Indian social sector, supporting more than 1,000 NGOs, and engaging over 300 Indian families to elevate and expand philanthropy across the country.

Sapna Karim

COO, Janaagraha

Sapna joined Janaagraha at its inception 23 years ago driven by her desire to deepen civic leadership. In her time at Janaagraha she has worked on community campaigns, anchored partnerships with governments on participatory budgeting and civic technology, and built its people practices. She has been an integral part of strengthening the organisation as it transitioned from a movement to an institution in its early years, and continues to do so in her current role. Prior to Janaagraha she was part of the IT sector for five years.
